More than 20 TB of backup

Beyond 20 TB we build a tailored solution, with dedicated storage and agreed retention. Talk to a systems engineer.

Why managed

Managed backup, with no hardware investment

Dedicated round-the-clock support

Phone and email support from our systems engineers, 365 days a year.

Quick activation

Copy one command and everything is configured: preconfigured retention and one-click restore.

Monitoring

Alerting active 24 hours a day on servers and datastores.

Encryption

Client-side encryption and encrypted traffic; firewall with source filtering on request.

Scalability

From 1 TB to over 20 TB, with hybrid synchronisation to S3 storage.

Certain location

Data stays in the data centers of our Edge network, starting with the one we own in Noventa di Piave: GDPR compliance and Italian jurisdiction.

Managed or on-premises

Managed or on-premises Proxmox backup: how to choose

A Proxmox Backup Server can stay on-premises, inside your infrastructure, or be handed over to a provider that manages it. The choice is not only about cost: it decides who carries the operational load of a system that has to work precisely in critical situations.

When managed Proxmox backup makes sense

A managed PBS is the right choice when the constraint is not the cost of storage but the team's time. There is no hardware to size and buy, no operating system to update and no datastore to monitor: the server is already running and supervised around the clock, and the cluster only needs to be configured to send its backups to the datastore.

It is also the fastest way to get a truly off-site copy. An off-site Proxmox backup lives from the start in a different place from the systems it protects, as the 3-2-1 rule requires: a backup kept in the same building and on the same LAN as the servers remains exposed to a fire, a flood or ransomware spreading across the network.

When keeping it on-premises makes sense

With dedicated hardware, enough bandwidth and a systems engineer who looks after the infrastructure, an on-premises PBS remains the fastest option for restoring large volumes, because the data does not have to cross the internet. In this scenario Rackone supplies the official Proxmox Backup Server subscription, invoiced from Italy, and remains your point of contact for support and updates, while the server stays yours.

The setup we recommend most often

In most of the projects we follow the two models coexist: an on-site PBS for everyday restores, fast because they run locally, and a PBS Cloud datastore as a synchronised off-site copy. It is the strictest application of the 3-2-1 rule, and it does not force a choice between the two approaches.

What is included

What the Proxmox backup cloud datastore includes

Preconfigured retention and verify jobs

Retention policies and periodic integrity checks are already set when you receive the credentials.

Incremental backup with deduplication

Only changed blocks travel across the network, and identical blocks take up space only once.

Client-side encryption

Data is encrypted before it leaves your infrastructure; the keys stay under your control.

Redundant storage in an Italian data center

With hybrid synchronisation to S3 object storage for the largest tiers.

Continuous monitoring and alerts

On servers and datastores, with phone and email support from our systems engineers 365 days a year.

Firewall with source filtering

Available on request, to restrict access to the datastore to the addresses of your infrastructure.

Frequently asked questions about PBS Cloud

How much does PBS Cloud cost?

PBS Cloud is billed monthly per storage tier, from 1 TB to 20 TB, VAT excluded, at the prices shown in the plans; beyond 20 TB Rackone builds a tailored solution with dedicated storage.

What does managed PBS in the cloud include?

Managed PBS in the cloud includes a Proxmox Backup Server installed, updated and supervised by Rackone in the Italian cloud: the cluster points to the datastore and uses incremental backup with deduplication, with no backup server to maintain.

What happens beyond 20 TB of backup space?

Beyond 20 TB Rackone builds a tailored PBS Cloud solution, with dedicated storage and agreed retention: sizing is done together with a systems engineer, not from a price list.

Can I use my own backup hardware?

Yes: in that case Rackone supplies the official Proxmox Backup Server subscription, invoiced from Italy, and remains your point of contact for support and updates, while the server stays with you.

Where are PBS Cloud backups stored?

PBS Cloud backups are stored in data centers in Italy, on Rackone's Edge network, with no transfers outside the EU: the off-site copy stays under Italian jurisdiction, a choice that simplifies GDPR and NIS2 compliance.

Is Proxmox Backup Server available in the cloud?

Yes, Proxmox Backup Server is also available as a service: with PBS Cloud, Rackone provides a managed Proxmox Backup Server datastore in data centers in Italy, to which your Proxmox VE cluster sends backups as it would to an on-site server. It is the off-site copy with no hardware to buy and maintain, and the data stays in Italy.

Can a company outside Italy use PBS Cloud?

Yes, PBS Cloud serves companies anywhere in the world: the datastore is reached over the internet like any off-site PBS, support answers in English or in Italian, and you reach us at the same contacts as our Italian customers.
