Server colocation, called housing in Italy, is the service in which a company installs its own servers and network equipment in a third-party data center, which provides rack space, redundant power, cooling, connectivity and physical security. The hardware remains the company's; the room, the facilities and the surveillance are managed by the data center. It differs from hosting, in which the server belongs to the provider, which makes its resources available (the difference between hosting and housing, in Italian).
Rackone offers colocation in a full rack or a half rack in the data centers of the Edge network in Italy, with redundant power and cooling, carrier-neutral connectivity and a dedicated access badge for each rack. The site is defined at the quote stage, based on where the users are and on the power required, and is stated in the contract. Cages, that is fenced areas with reserved access, and multi-rack configurations are designed to measure.
