Managed cloud services in Italy

Rackone's managed cloud services are infrastructure as a service (IaaS): virtual servers, a private cloud with dedicated resources, S3-compatible storage and business continuity, on our Edge network of data centers in Italy and Europe. We manage the hardware, the network and the data centers, with traffic included and 24h support; you decide how much of the rest to hand over, from your first VPS to a private cloud without changing provider.

IaaS services

Managed cloud services for business: choose yours

01

Virtual Private Cloud

A dedicated pool of vCPU, RAM and NVMe storage, with private network, firewall and self-service console, on a Proxmox VE cluster: your own virtual data center, without hardware to manage.

02

Cloud VPS, Linux and Windows

Linux and Windows virtual servers, unmanaged or managed, with snapshots and traffic included.

03

Edge Cloud

Cloud resources in the Edge network data center closest to your users, or across two sites for geographic redundancy.

04

Storage S3

S3-compatible object storage for backups, archives and applications, with versioning and object lock and outbound traffic included.

05

Business Continuity

Replication to a secondary site, failover and continuity plans with RTO and RPO (restart time and data you can afford to lose) agreed with you and verified with regular tests.

06

Public Cloud

Virtual servers, Cloud App and S3 storage on infrastructure shared by several customers, isolated from each other, with a predictable monthly fee and the same support.

Which managed cloud service do you need?

Start from the workload, not the product: a single machine is a VPS, several machines that talk to each other make a Virtual Private Cloud, and files that must last for years are better kept in S3 storage. They are all forms of IaaS cloud infrastructure (in Italian): you choose operating system and software, Rackone runs the hardware and the network.

What it is
Best for
Cloud VPS
A Linux or Windows virtual server, unmanaged or managed
A website, business software, one application on one machine
Virtual Private Cloud
A dedicated pool of vCPU, RAM and NVMe storage, with a private network and self-service console
Several connected machines, environments to isolate, departments with separate access
Edge Cloud
The same resources at the Edge network site closest to your users, or on two sites
Distributed offices and users, latency-sensitive workloads
Storage S3
S3-compatible object storage, with versioning and object lock
Backups, archives, application files
Business Continuity
Replication to a secondary site and a restart plan with written RTO and RPO
Services that cannot stop

One service does not rule out another: most projects combine two or three, with a single contract and the same point of contact.

Cloud or on-premise: what changes for a company?

On-premise means the servers sit in your building and are yours: you buy them, power them and replace them. With managed cloud services the same capacity comes as a monthly fee, and the hardware becomes Rackone's job.

The cloud is not always cheaper. With recent hardware, steady workloads and someone to run them, it can cost less to move your servers into a data center with colocation in Italy, or to keep some systems in-house and move the rest: that is the hybrid cloud. We tell you in the assessment, even when the answer is that your current set-up is adequate.

Data centers

Sovereign cloud in Italy: where does your data run?

Our own data center in Venice and a network of partners in Italy and Europe: direct control where control matters, proximity where latency matters. The Edge network counts ten data centers, eight in Italy and two in Germany and Switzerland, and you choose the site: your data stays where you choose.

Redundant infrastructure, multi-carrier connectivity and 24h technical oversight apply across the whole network, and every system is designed and managed by our team. Not every service is available at every site: availability is checked before activation.

Frequently asked questions about managed cloud services

How much do managed cloud services cost?

The cost of Rackone's managed cloud services depends on the service: VPS have plans with a public monthly price, VAT excluded, while Virtual Private Cloud and Edge Cloud are quoted on the resource pool, after an assessment. Traffic is included in all of them: no egress fees, so the invoice does not grow with downloads.

What is the difference between a private cloud and a public cloud?

A private cloud reserves the infrastructure for one organisation, a public cloud shares it among many customers: it is the distinction made by the NIST definition of cloud computing. In Rackone's managed cloud services the Virtual Private Cloud reserves a pool of resources and a private network for you, while a VPS is a virtual machine on shared infrastructure, that is, Rackone's public cloud.

Can I keep some systems on my premises?

Yes, Rackone's managed cloud services work alongside the systems that stay in your company: that is the hybrid cloud. What gains most from flexibility moves to the cloud, for example the website, the backups or a test environment, and the rest stays where it is. The link between your premises and the cloud is designed together, in the initial assessment.

Can I move to a European cloud provider from a hyperscaler?

Yes, moving to Rackone's managed cloud services from one of the main hyperscalers starts with an assessment of your current total cost, egress included, and continues with a phased migration plan: your workloads move to a European cloud provider, run by an Italian company. The method is described on the server migration page, in Italian.

Does my data stay in Italy?

Yes, if you choose an Italian site: with Rackone's managed cloud services your data stays where you choose, among the eight Italian data centers of the Edge network and the two in Germany and Switzerland. Rackone is an Italian company, and you always know where your data resides and who can access it.

What is a sovereign cloud?

A sovereign cloud keeps both your data and the provider that runs it under the law you choose: storing data in Europe is not enough if the provider is subject to a law with extraterritorial reach, such as the US CLOUD Act. Rackone is an Italian company, subject to Italian and EU law, and runs its managed cloud services on our Edge network of data centers in Italy and Europe: your data stays where you choose, and you always know who can access it.

Who manages the virtual machines, me or Rackone?

Who manages the virtual machines depends on the cloud service you choose: you run an unmanaged VPS yourself, with root access, we run a managed one, and in the Virtual Private Cloud you create and manage machines from the self-service console. Rackone's systems management service covers the management whenever you prefer not to do it yourself.

Can a company outside Italy use Rackone's cloud services?

Yes, Rackone's managed cloud services are sold to companies anywhere in the world: the infrastructure stays on our Edge network of data centers in Italy and Europe, run by an Italian company, and you reach our team in English at the same contacts as our Italian customers, by email and by phone.

Let's size your cloud together.

No waste: you pay for the resources you really need.
